What Are Some Common Denture Problems?

Dentures do not have to be bad. They can look great if they are made well and fitted properly. Midtown Dentistry, Houston, TX can help with common problems and make your denture experience more pleasant.

8 Common Denture Problems

1. Premature Aging with Old Dentures:

It may be time for new dentures if your face looks tired. New dentures can lengthen and straighten your face, making you appear younger again.

2. Unfitting Dentures:

Don’t wait to see your dentist if you have dentures that aren’t fitting properly. If your dentures don’t fit properly, this causes friction between your soft tissues and your dentures. It can cause sores that could become infected.

3. Low Chewing Ability:

Dentures should feel and function just like regular teeth. You may have difficulty chewing if your dentures don’t feel and function like regular teeth. This could lead to problems with your health, especially if you eat certain foods.

4. unnatural-looking Teeth:

Most people don’t realize that you have dentures. Common dentures that don’t fit you include teeth that look like “Chicklet”, dark teeth, or teeth that show too much of the gum line, teeth that are too flat, sloppy, or like a picket fence. Your dentures should look natural and have the right amount of teeth.

5. Make Your Face Look Old:

Too short dentures can make your face look shorter and create deeper wrinkles. All of us know that wrinkles can make us look older, especially around our mouths. Even if your original dentures fit perfectly, your ridge tissue will change and shrink over time. You will need new dentures if this happens. Unstable dentures can cause your ridges to shrink even further, making you appear older.

6. Jaw Disorders

Too much denture wear can cause problems in the jaw. TMJ disorder (temporomandibular joints) can cause jaw or neck pain.

7. Bad oral hygiene:

This one’s all yours. You can get bacteria growth if you don’t properly brush your dentures. It will not only cause bad breath but also weaken your denture.

8. Emotional and Psychological Stress:

Comfortable dentures are essential for your mental and emotional well-being. It can be difficult to eat or speak if your dentures aren’t looking good. You may feel embarrassed and have to stop socializing.

What are the Common Problems With New Dentures?

Too much saliva:

A common problem with dentures is too much saliva. Your saliva glands are activated when you put something in your mouth. Your body will initially treat your dentures as food, and it will start to act when you place them in. Your body will soon recognize that your dentures are part of you and will begin producing salvia again.

Some strange facial expressions:

You might be surprised at how your face appears when you get your dentures. This is normal. You will soon notice a change in your facial expressions as you adjust to the dentures.

Feeling loose:

Your body will not be used to dentures in your mouth when you first get them. It will attempt to remove them like any other thing it sees. The dentures will feel loose. Don’t worry. You will notice that your tongue and cheek muscles stop trying to remove the dentures after a while. They may even be able to hold them in place for a time.

Too much in the mouth:

You will feel strange when you first get your dentures. It is normal to feel that they are too large or too full. You’ll eventually get used to the way they feel in your mouth and it will become second nature.

It’s hard to chew

It will be difficult to chew the dentures at first. Your ability to chew will improve as you become more comfortable with the dentures. Begin with simple bites of soft food, then progress to more complicated foods. You will soon become comfortable with the way your dentures function by practicing soft chewing.
